The GN Show

Back in September 2011 I did an interview with Graham Norton for The Mighty Boosh and they always give out this little survey for the online fans, I thought I'd compare the two from 2011 and this year's:

If you weren't talking to me right now you'd be...
In my NYC apartment.
Painting with Noel Fielding
A phrase you use far too often...
"Wait but actually though" I love that I can't trust what people say anymore because everyone I know is so sarcastic like myself that I have to ask "Wait...but actually though".
"It's funny, I remember when..." when I'm about to start ANY story.
You wish people would take more notice of...
Hard workers.
The little guy
The most surprising thing that happened to you was...
When I received a starring role on SNL. It's just I had only been on the show for a year and I knew so many other veteran candidates that had so much more experience to be in a starring position. But I'm so glad that I am you have no idea.
Getting asked to be in a Chris Nolan film...like...what.
A common misperception of you is...
I am not a possessive girlfriend! I remember Julian [Casablancas] was telling me that one of his new guy friends was saying that he needs to go out more because Julian spends too much time with me and I keep him on a short leash. I couldn't stop laughing.
Everything I say should be taken literally. UH, NO, PLEASE. I make SO many "fame" jokes, like, one time Amy (Poehler) asked me "Hey Christina wanna go get a hotdog from outside? I'm hungry" and I laughed, and said jokingly "Come on Amy we're too rich to be subjecting ourselves to the poverty of street food" and then we both laughed and high fived and I got an email later from Lorne (Michaels) saying that someone saw that and said that I should be fired for being a bitch. COME ON PEOPLE.
You are not a politician but...
I will fight for what's right. Yeehaw.
I would only run for office if that position was Vice President and Stephen Colbert was my Presidential candidate.
You're good at...
Juggling.
Making awkward jokes.
You're very bad at...
Updating my blog...I always feel bad when my tell tale excuse is "I had school!" "I had to work!" "I had to have lunch with Paul Rudd and Jorma Taccone!"
Handling spiders.
You're ideal night out is...
Going to a party and coming home with the person you went their with and with your wallet and cellphone.
Sushi and a movie with slapstick comedy...I am a Japanese 15 year-old, yes.
In moments of weakness you...
Make jokes.
MOTHER MARRRYYY COMES TO MEEEEEEE! SPEAKING WORDS OF WISDOM...LET IT BE.
The best age to be is...
I dunno, 21? Sure.
23. Oh look at that, I'm at the best age ever!? Go me!
In a nutshell, your philosophy is this:
Live life to the fullest and try anything once. Except anal sex and heroin, that shit is just weird.
You get what you get and you don't get upset. Yes and... Put Parmesan cheese on a plate and put it in the microwave, you will not be disappointed.

Philly

I FINALLY made it to Philadelphia! It's gorgeous here, well, a little rainy, but then again it's raining everywhere.  Bradley and I went through airport HELL yesterday. Now, I knew JFK was gonna be crazy for Thanksgiving, that's why we got to the airport 3 hours early, brought plenty of movies, and were prepared. What we weren't prepared for was the crazy rain and fog that stopped the plane for 2 hours. So, Bradley and I left NYC at 4:45AM for a 8:30AM flight and didn't make it to Philly till like...12PM. Ha ha, not the airports fault but very annoying. But once we got to Bradley's mom's house, ahh, it was perfect. Amazing home, looks like it was decorated by Martha Stewart, smells like cinnamon and pumpkin. And Gloria is just an angel sent from heaven, right when I got there it was all hugs and kisses and Bradley's DOG! Oh my gosh, adorable cute Labrador retriever who just wants to play, and Bradley had to go do an American Hustle interview so Gloria and I watched Homeland for 2 hours (I've never seen the show!). I feel so welcome here (:

I'd like to thank People Magazine for my spot at number 1 for: Top 10 Girls Taking Over Hollywood. For those wondering...

1. Christina Essenelle
2. Jennifer Larwrence
3. Miley Cyrus
4. Aubrey Plaza
5. Emma Watson
6. Emma Stone
7. Rashida Jones
8. Kristen Wiig
9. Zooey Deschanel
10. Selena Gomez

And this came out right when my ELLE magazine covershoot and centerfold came out. Ahh, so much is happening. It blows my mind that the premiere is THIS Sunday. I'm so excited, I invited like everyone I know. Seriously though. Oh today I watched Bad Grandpa with Bradley after BEGGING him to go with me. It was AMAZING. EVERYONE GO SEE THIS MOVIE. Johnny Knoxville and this friggin' kid are hilarious, and that kid is gonna have such an awesome future of booty...ah, bring a smile to my face.

On Monday I had a very nice interview with Chuck the Movie Guy. It's refreshing to not have the same "what was it like to kiss Joseph Gordon-Levitt??!?!?!?" questions all the time, this guy knew what he was going to ask and had done research to ask those questions. I had a very good time, and he's a nice and funny guy in general! Hopefully someone will be interviewing him for his big comedy movie, till, here's to you!

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon-Nightwing Interview

JIMMY
My first guest is the star of the highly anticipated new movie, Nightwing, which comes out Sunday December 1st, you know her, you love her, please welcome Christina Essenelle!
CHRISTINA
(the crowd cheers wildly and CHRISTINA walks out and hugs JIMMY, she is wearing a gold dress that lands right above the knee, she hugs him and sits down while waving to the crowd) I'll never get used to that.
JIMMY
People cheering for you?
CHRISTINA
Yeah, just won't stick.
JIMMY
So, look at you, my, my! (she flips her hair and the audience laughs) Live TV star to movie star...I can't believe I've known you throughout all of it.
CHRISTINA
It's crazy right? And out of all the first films I could've had, I got a superhero film with Chris Nolan as my director.
JIMMY
Not only that transformation but you look so fit!
CHRISTINA
Oh my gosh (a few wolf-whistles from the audience) Well I'm not going to glamorize it, I worked my butt of, like 5 hours a day for 3 months training, because I had to become practically an Olympic gymnast by the end of those three months so, I've got horses legs now.
JIMMY
I've seen the movie by the way, fantastic, absolutely fantastic, I think we have a clip (they play a clip where CHRISTINA is on a balance beam doing cartwheels, flips, and round-offs while GARY OLDMAN is yelling at her, the clip ends and the audience applauds) I mean, that's just amazing! Speaking of amazing, Christina-
CHRISTINA
What?
JIMMY
Let's talk about Saturday Night Live, I mean I've been at almost every single SNL show and you are just fantastic-
CHRISTINA
(the audience applauds) Oh thank you.
JIMMY
Yeah I mean you really are the star of that show-
CHRISTINA
Oh please.
JIMMY
Are there any characters that you would like to do?
CHRISTINA
You know, sometimes I hate being a girl because how many girl impressions are there? Not that many, I mean we've really done them all, Emma Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow, and even for her it was like a character of hers from a movie, cause if you met her in real life she'd just be like a nice person, "Hi, nice to meet you, I was in Iron Man, yes. Let's drink!" (the audience laughs) I mean I don't know. But other than guy impressions I wish I could sing on the show.
JIMMY
Sing huh? So, secrets about Christina, she's a great singer and secretly a man, okay, learning a lot tonight! (the audience laughs) Can you prove it? (the audience cheers loudly)
CHRISTINA
(sarcastically) Oh if only I had something prepared (stage hands bring out a keyboard with masquerade masks on top of it) oh there it is (the audience laughs and cheers as CHRISTINA gets up and sits at the keyboard chair) You guys heard of The Addams Family? (the audience cheers) well, they made a musical, and the characters on that show are so diverse I thought I'd sing you One Normal Night from The Addams Family musical which features 8 different characters (the audience cheers as she then introduces the characters by wearing the masks and singing a sentence in their voice) My name is Wednesday Addams and I am in love. (a different mask) My name is Lucas and I love Wednesday! (a different mask) My name is Morticia and my daughter Wednesday will not be in love! (a different mask) My name is Gomez and I love my sexy wife! (a different mask) My name is Fester and I'm fat and bald. (a different mask) I'm Lucas' father and I don't agree with any of this love business. (a different mask) I'm Lucas' mother and boy do I want to smother! (a different mask) We're the background! (with no mask on) Singing with me is Broadway legend, Jonathan Groff! (the audience applauds) Maestro! (the band starts up and CHRISTINA dons a WEDNESDAY mask)
WEDNESDAY
They're normal people not like you, not like me, please can't we be an average family. (the audience cheers) One normal night that's all I want that's all I need from you. One normal house without a mouse to feed a plant or two! You must admit we're not what people call laid back, so can't we muse a bit and lose the basic black? Wooaooh one, normal night with normal pepole on their way, just one normal night, what do you say?
MORTICIA
One normal night?
WEDNESDAY
To be polite to do the least you can.
GOMEZ
One normal eve?
WEDNESDAY
Can you achieve a kind of common man? You have to swear to me, yes promise to the core. It's almost 6 o'clock they're almost at the door. On all the Addams ancestors who've ever walked alright, one, normal night. (the audience cheers even louder)
BACKGROUND
Do do do do, do do do do, do do do do do doooo.
LUCAS
Wait, this is where I first saw her! Wednesday with a crossbow, and she looked like Diana the huntress.
LUCAS' FATHER
Who?
LUCAS' MOTHER
He's just expressing himself dear, expressing is the poet's art, just simply say what's in your heart!
LUCAS' FATHER
Lucas, your mother's rhyming again, I saw we take a rain check and go back to the hotel!
LUCAS
NO! One normal night, no not one poem not one inspiring word. One normal scene complete routine tonight can't be absurd! Please don't embarrass me or be completely rude. Don't make a fuss about the house about the food, woahohoh one, normal night I know it's big but can't you see, this one normal night is for me.
FESTER
Oh he seems like a nice young man.
BACKGROUND
They're not right for each other.
FESTER
Not right for each other? What do you mean not right for each other? Was Napoleon right for Josephine? Was nausea right for Dramamine? Were the 80's right for the drum machine? Who's to say? Who's to say! Was ballet right for Ballantine? Was polio right for the Salk vaccine? (taking off her mask) Were you folks right for the mezzanine? ...who's to say. (the audience laughs as she puts back on her FESTER mask) One normal night is a perilous trick, normal is hard to attain. Children are crazy and parents are quick, passions are hard to explain. But this is their moment and this is your chance, so if you don't want to remain...start singing of love!
BACKGROUND
What?
FESTER
Love!
BACKGROUND
NO!
FESTER
LOVE!
BACKGROUND
WHY?
FESTER
LOVE!
BACKGROUND
UGH!
FESTER
Only affairs of the heart, your turn!
BACKGROUND
Bringing that love,
FESTER
Yes!
BACKGROUND
Love!
FESTER
Yes!
BACKGROUND
Love!
FESTER
Right!
BACKGROUND
LOVE!
FESTER
Good! Love lets your spirit depart. So, let the normalcy start.
BACKGROUND
Protect and valley round let's leave them in the pit! One normal night is what they'll...
FESTER
GET! (the hoots and hollers for that loud low note
BACKGROUND
One normal night, one normal night, one normal night, Wednesday wants one normal night, one normal night, one normal night give her just, one normal night, one normal night, one normal night Wednesday wants one, one, one-
WEDNESDAY
ONE! All I want, all I ask-
BACKGROUND
We'll comprehend we'll tend to every need.
LUCAS' PARENTS
(CHRISTINA as LUCAS' MOTHER and JONATHAN GROFF as LUCAS' FATHER) When we arrive we'll come alive to make this night succeed!
LUCAS
Just be respectable don't make an odd remark.
LUCAS' PARENTS
Ok, ok.
WEDNESDAY
Keep undetectable our passion for the dark.
WEDNESDAY'S PARENTS
(CHRISTINA as MORTICIA and JONATHAN as GOMEZJust as you say!
WEDNESDAY AND LUCAS
(CHRISTINA as WEDNESDAY and JONATHAN as LUCAS) And then it's paradise right here in central park!
EVERYONE
In one normal, informal, one normal- (with all the masks moved off the keyboard CHRISTINA plays two notes that sound like a boat casting off, everyone laughs) Night! (CHRISTINA then plays the final notes on the piano as well and once she's finished JIMMY runs over and puts an arm around her while the audience is giving her a standing ovation)
JIMMY
Christina Essenelle everybody that was amazing! (she smiles and looks down) Nightwing comes out everywhere Sunday December 1st, again, Christina Essenelle! (while the audience cheers still, JIMMY and CHRISTINA hug each other and smile to the camera, right when it goes off CHRISTINA screams and hugs an oncoming LORNE MICHAELS)
LORNE
It was perfect!
CHRISTINA
I DID IT! (they hug each other tightly) I told you I could do it.
LORNE
I knew you could, you just needed a little push in the right direction.
CHRISTINA
Yeah, yeah. (to JIMMY) You were awesome.
JIMMY
Yeah well what can I say. I still can't believe your voice-
JONATHAN
THAT WAS PERFECT CHRISTINA!!
CHRISTINA
Ahhh we did it!! (the hugs him and he spins her, one of the producers comes around to CHRISTINA and JONATHAN)
GAVIN
Christina you were great, I'd hate to break up this party but we gotta reset for Lenny Kravitz.
CHRISTINA
Oh right, let's celebrate back in my dressing room.
STEVE HIGGINS
(high fives CHRISTINA) I'll see you on Broadway soon dear!
CHRISTINA
Oh my God, stop.
~

Ah, I love my job.

Late Show with David Letterman-Nightwing Interview

I messed up my schedule, well, changed it really, Joe (Gordon-Levitt) is going to do the Nightwing interview by himself (made more sense, Leno is in CA and I'm in NYC and I hate Jay Leno), so instead I'll be on Letterman tonight! Things have been so crazy lately, I'm running around airports and trying on expensive dresses while getting my hair and make-up done. Exciting! But crazy. I can't thank Noel enough for giving me such a good time in London, I'll miss it. But I'm back in the big apple and Josh Hutcherson is on SNL this week, since I'm back now I will be in 2 scenes, so yay for that. My first three dresses were from Christian Dior, Rachel Roy, and Zac Posen, and I've got 2 more dresses for talk shows this week and then a big photoshoot with Elle and the my last interview before I leave for Philadelphia is on Monday (Chuck the Movie Guy).

WOO WOO! By the way, every time my movie list I keep on my wall fills up I deposit it here:
He's Just Not That Into You
Vacancy
The A Team
The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia
The Accused
All About Steve
Brother's Justice
Brokeback Mountain
Candy
Silence of the Lambs
Hannibal
Se7en
The Machinist
Pi
I Want to Marry Ryan Banks
Aziz Ansari: Buried Alive
Aziz Ansari: Dangerously Delicious
Love Actually
Jim Gaffigan: Mr. Universe

Here's my Letterman interview snippets!

DAVID
You know you've really been the one to watch since Seth Meyers first told me about you.
CHRISTINA
He did! What did he say?
DAVID
Just that you were very talented and that you would have a wonderful career here in New York.
CHRISTINA
That Seth Meyers...I can't thank him enough. He gave me so many good characters on SNL since he's the Head Writer, soon to be talk show host...that still blows my mind.
DAVID
I'm excited to see what he's going to push out, speaking of excitement, your new movie!
CHRISTINA
Yes! My first movie, my first press tour-
DAVID
I feel like I'm your dad and I'm taking pictures of all your firsts!
CHRISTINA
I know! I do feel very young talking to these late night hosts, you know, they've seen it all. And I'm just sitting here like...yup did a movie. Pretty psyched.
DAVID
Ha ha, well it was wonderful, and for our audience get your tickets soon because it's already sold out opening day EVERYWHERE.
CHRISTINA
What!!
DAVID
You didn't know that?
CHRISTINA
No, that's incredible!

~

DAVID Is it tough doing so many interviews? Are there some questions you thought you'd never get asked? CHRISTINA Oh I'm an open book and have been since day 1, but I think the weirdest questions I've got have been about other people, like "how could you concentrate working when the sexy sex machine know as Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in the room? It's crazy. DAVID Well I'm sure people ask him the same question, you were in maxims top 10! CHRISTINA Ha ha I hope so, can you imagine if people couldn't work with me cause I made maxims top 10? DAVID I'm sorry, what?
~
CHRISTINA Bring it on! I live for rapid fire questioning. DAVID Haha alright, what's your favorite movie? CHRISTINA The Dark Knight DAVID If you had to share the screen with any actress who would it be? CHRISTINA Maggie Smith DAVID Who do you consider to be your fashion icon? CHRISTINA Emma Watson DAVID What's your guilty pleasure tv show? CHRISTINA Bad Girls Club DAVID Last one, if you had to share an on screen kiss with any actor who would it be? CHRISTINA (grinds teeth for a second) Arrghhh, Ryan Reynolds. DAVID Three seconds for all congrats! I gotta say I thought the last one would be easy for you, dating an actor and all. CHRISTINA See that's where people get it wrong a lot, I hate the idea of Bradley Cooper and I being in a movie together, cause then all they're gonna look at is "oh look they're so cute oh my god blah blah blah" and they should be watching the movie. And I've never really met Ryan Reynolds so...sure him. DAVID Christina you'll just be ranking up the sexiest men alive before you know it! CHRISTINA Haha no I don't know Adam Levine very well ~

The Graham Norton Show-Nightwing Interview

Taped The Graham Norton show tonight and there were so many fantastic guests on as well! David Tennant, Matt Smith, Jimmy Carr...fantastic people. David and Jimmy I know but Matt, what a nice and charming man. The show airs this Friday so tune in then! Jonathan Ross show is on Saturday and Alan Carr is on Friday as well (SO MUCH ESSENELLE ON TV AT ONCE!) and I leave for NYC tonight. I'm sad and happy at the same time, I miss Bradley and my home like crazy but I never get to see my lovely British friends! Julian Barratt, Rich Ayoade, Rich Fulcher, Matt Berry, Graham Linehan, Paul King, Mike Fielding, Russel Brand, Noel of course...ah, and that's why I wanted to come to London first. My home away from home! Till next time London, au revoir!

Here a some snippets from the Graham Norton show!
~
GRAHAM

I always see these videos online about backstage shenanigans at Saturday night live, are there really that many crazy pranks you all pull on one another?
CHRISTINA
Yes(laughter) well we all just know each other really well and work together all the time and that can get a little dull so we try and crack each other up while filming.
GRAHAM
What about on the set of Nightwing? Same scenario?
CHRISTINA

Oh god, sometimes, but only if it as a funny scene, like if it was one of the more solemn moments everyone there would either be not paying attention or just completely sad as well, things got real on set, although once Javier Bardem, the leading villain in the film, and I took dry-erase marker and drew little figures on a clear film and placed that over Chris' camera lens, so that when he looked in it he'd see dinosaurs eating me in a scene or spaceships zapping up Joseph Gordon-Levitt up.
GRAHAM
Very funny, but speaking of Javier Bardem...my my he's quite the villain!
CHRISTINA
Oh I know! There are a few scenes where we're practically nose to nose
~
GRAHAM
Now last time you were here you just finished up with The Mighty Boosh and were moving on to The I.T. Crowd!
CHRISTINA
Yes! And The I.T. Crowd just had it's series finale about a month ago I believe.
GRAHAM
Where were you then, you weren't in the finale!
CHRISTINA
Yeah, but we really wrapped up my story-line within the show, I mean I was fired, it's not like I was going to pop-up at Reynholm Industries any time soon. But the episode was really great and I'm really proud of everyone who was in it.
GRAHAM
And what a fantastic show, I think my favorite character is Douglas...no offense of course!
CHRISTINA
Oh God, no. He's my favorite too! Matt Berry...he's one of a kind, great singer and guitarist actually! A lot of people don't know that, I got to have a few private showings myself.
~
CHRISTINA
I think I'm most excited for some of the RSVPs we got for the premiere, I met Oprah on Monday so apparently she's going to be there...!
GRAHAM
Oprah, wow! That'd definitely give your premiere a little punch.
CHRISTINA
And according to David and Matt they're coming too...
DAVID
Absolutely!
MATT
Yeah we'd love to see your movie.
GRAHAM
See that's what they say now...just wait until your reach the States and then it's "Oh I'm busy...too much tea...!"
CHRISTINA
(everyone laughs) I don't know about Matt...but David and I have a history, right love doctor?!
DAVID
Oh God...last time I do big fat quiz of the year!
JIMMY
No...!

Alan Carr: Chatty Man-Nightwing Interview

Oh I ADORE Alan Carr, and after a late night of partying with Noel, the Boosh, and Jonathan Ross I can't wait for another interview!

Interview just finished! We talked about so many things, the movie (my awesome fight scenes), Bradley and I (oh la la), making out with Louis CK and Zach Galifianakis on SNL, and my crazy weekend in Vegas with Bradley, Zachie G, and Ed. By the way, watch Josh Hutcherson on SNL this Saturday with musical guest HAIM. Here are some highlights:

ALAN
Now what's this I hear about you dating the sexiest man alive?
CHRISTINA
(hands in face) Oh god.
ALAN
(laughter) Oh God doesn't sound good! What, abs get in the way of your vision?
CHRISTINA
(she laughs) Only sometimes. No things are good, (smiling) they're good.
ALAN
You've got the face of a newlywed gal! Oooo do we hear wedding bells soon?
CHRISTINA
Oh please! Tomorrow I think is our two month anniversary or something.
ALAN
Oh my monthaversaries.
CHRSITINA
I'm young! Love is exciting!
ALAN
Mmmhm.
~
ALAN
I've seen the movie, and Christina, you almost turned me straight I mean....!
CHRISTINA
(CHRISTINA and the audience laugh loudly) Oh God, what the batgirl suit?
ALAN
Skin tight, my lord! I'm not going to give anything away but oh my, just fantastic. Who would've thought? Our little mighty boosh a big movie star...!
CHRISTINA
Well thank you, thank you. I worked very hard and I knew I wanted to go to England first, it's like a second home to me.
ALAN
Speaking of second home aren't you staying with that nut Noel Fielding?
CHRISTINA
Ha ha ha, he's not a nut, he's creative! But yes I'm staying with Noel, friends for life.

The Jonathan Ross Show-Nightwing Interview

I realize that The Jonathan Ross shows premieres on Saturday and that we filmed it on Monday, I'M A BUSY GIRL! Quit yer emails.
JONATHAN ROSS
Our other guest is of course the star of Saturday Night Live but now she's moved on to movies and such, it's the wonderful, Christina Essenelle! (the crowd cheers as CHRISTINA leaves the room and is greeting by JONATHAN, he takes her hand and kisses both of her cheeks) You look fabulous, Christina.
CHRISTINA
Why, thank you!
JONATHAN
Lovely to see you again, come and sit down. (CHRISTINA sits on the couch while JONATHAN goes back to his desk) That's a wonderful outfit, is that leather that dress?
CHRISTINA
It is leather! It's a blue leather dress, with slits to make me all sexy and what not.
JONATHAN
Oh well congratulations on a job well done (both CHRISTINA and the audience laugh) Um, last time I saw you, you left my booth at The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2011 for that vampire of a human being Noel Fielding.
CHRISTINA
(laughing) Oh leave poor Noel alone, I'm actually staying with him while in London!
JONATHAN
Oh well I wouldn't doubt it, you two were like little puppies just pushing and biting one another.
CHRISTINA
Ha ha! Very funny, you're just mad because I left you with Russel Brand, and he himself is essentially chaos. (the audience laughs)
JONATHAN
(stares at the audience intently) It was quite frightening.
CHRISTINA
But I'm back! And I've missed you Jonathan, I really have. (the audience awes)
JONATHAN
Yeah well, who wouldn't miss this devilish charm (he runs his hand through his hair, CHRISTINA and the audience laugh) But in all seriousness you are back, and you've got quite a big thing to talk about.
CHRISTINA
Yes indeed.
JONATHAN
Nightwing. First movie, were you nervous filming for the big screen this time?
CHRISTINA
Oh God yes, I've always loved the Batman trilogy and really everything Christopher Nolan has done so I was so intimidated to be working with him and people like Gary Oldman.
JONATHAN
But, I assume you got over it.
CHRISTINA
Oh yes, I think the moment I realized that I trusted Chris 100% was when I fainted from exhaustion on set and I was sent to our little medical tent and Chris had stayed with me the entire time, filming was stopped for the day, and he bought dinner and watched stupid TV with me.
JONATHAN
Stupid TV?
CHRISTINA
Yeah I don't know if you have Toddlers and Tiaras here in BBC land but in America there's a show that goes into child pagaentry and it's just hilarious, but I call it stupid TV because it's just so...
JONATHAN
Stupid!
CHRISTINA
(she and the audience laugh) Exactly!
JONATHAN
I’m surprised at how positively British you are, I mean two BBC shows, a British director, and a British father in the film…do you have an obsession with us?
CHRISTINA
(laughter) No not quite, I do nail the accent though.
JONATHAN
You do it pretty well, there’s a few key words you’re missing but otherwise good, why do you do that by the way?
CHRISTINA
Speak with an accent in England?
JONATHAN
Yeah, because most actors that come from the States speak with an American accent.
CHRISTINA
Well, when I was younger, as most of you know I was an orphan and I noticed that beggars who went to China and Korea Town wouldn’t get any food if they didn’t know the language, so I use to know how to ask in Chinese and Korean “please give me some food I am poor”, anyways point of the story is that when you make an effort to even slightly resemble their culture people appreciate it, so here I sit, speaking as though I were British, because I care.
JONATHAN
(the audience claps) And it is very generous, and we do appreciate it.
CHRISTINA
I try.
JONATHAN
Let’s talk about this movie you’re in, big, big film. Can you tell us a little about it?
CHRISTINA
Why of course! I’m going to assume the people watching this have already seen the first three films, or any of those 3 films. I play Barbara Gordon, Lieutenant Gordon’s daughter, and I go and help Nightwing, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, solve this weird pattern of murders that were caused by Javier Bardem’s character. That’s basically what’s going on.
JONATHAN
Ah yes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, he’s quite the handsome man isn’t he?
CHRISTINA
Ha ha, I don’t think I’ll ever view him like that, we’ve got more of a brother-sister relationship going on.
JONATHAN
Now, I’ve seen the movie but I know it doesn’t come out till December 1st, but I really just wanted to say-without giving anything away-that you were absolutely amazing.
CHRISTINA
Oh thank you-
JONATHAN
No really, Christina. I know I’m a talk show host and I have to say how wonderful and fabulous you are but I mean this from the bottom of my heart, your movie touched me in a way I wish I could explain to the audience. I cried!
CHRISTINA
You did? At something I did?
JONATHAN
Well, yeah! Oh I sat in that screener with my wife and she lost it and couldn’t even console her because I was just covering my mouth in awe with tears streaming down my face, you are a truly phenomenal actress Christina, and I’ll be damned if you don’t win every award out there for that movie. (the audience claps and cheers loudly while CHRISTINA blushes and covers her face she shakes her head in disbelief for a while and then she puts her hands down and she’s tear-y eyed) Oh no, don’t cry!
CHRISTINA
(laughs and wipes her eyes) I value your opinion so much Jonathan, you have no idea. As someone who is known for comedy it was such a battle for me to take this job. I want to be seen as a versatile actress, but when I would tell people about this opportunity they would say “how could you do a dramatic role, you’re a comedian on SNL who does goofy characters”, but I did it any way, no one believed I could do it except for those who were on set with me. I remember after we finished filming the climax scene, the one I assume you cried during, and Chris came up to me a week later and showed me the scene and when it ended he just looked at me, also teary eyed and said “You’re truly talented Christina, you’re going to go so far in this business, and I thank God I was the first one to get to see it”
JONATHAN
(she wipes her eyes again and JONATHAN takes her hand) You alright?
CHRISTINA
I’m so sorry, this is my first interview for the film where my interviewer actually saw the movie, ugh I’m a mess.
JONATHAN
I saw your blog, don’t you have about 20 more interviews to do?
CHRISTINA
OH GOD. (the audience laughs loudly)
JONATHAN
Well I think we have a clip for the audience while you calm yourself down (she laughs and the lights dim and the clip plays, it's about 30 seconds long. The audience applaudes when the clip ends and the lights come back on)
CHRISTINA
Alright so from here on out, no more crying.
JONATHAN
I don’t think I've ever had someone cry on my show, it’s kind of surreal seeing an actress actually be herself.
CHRISTINA
Ha ha, what a commodity.
JONATHAN
No I know, but from my stand point this is an actual commodity, actors are very closed off and sheltered but I've never got the impression that that's something you're about.
CHRISTINA
No, it really isn't. It's funny, my assistant will send over a list of things that he thinks I don't want to talk about and that's really not the case, I'm an open book and always have been, I mean how many celebrities do you know out there that have a blog that explicitly tells them what's happening on there day-to-day?
JONATHAN
No many that's for sure!
CHRISTINA
I somewhat understand it and don't at the same time.
JONATHAN
Have you ever been close friends or intimate with someone who has that mindset of sort of "don't ask, don't tell"?
CHRISTINA
Oh of course! I mean, I'm in a movie with Christopher Nolan as the director, and if you remember for the last three Batman films everyone was very hush hush about the film as a whole, and I had to as well which killed me. All I wanted to do was to tell people what was happening and what not but I couldn't! I found out I was in the film several months before I could even say anything about it.
JONATHAN
Oh so you did sort of close yourself off?
CHRISTINA
Absolutely, well I had to!
JONATHAN
Don't want to give anything away, I understand. Well and there really is a lot to give away in just one interview, if you know what I mean.
CHRISTINA
No, what do you mean?
JONATHAN
Well there are certain scenes that I don't think you'd want your fans to know about before the movie comes out.
CHRISTINA
Oh yeah of course! I'm actually really excited to see what people think of it as a whole, I know everyone I go to class with is going to go see it. At least my teachers are that is.
JONATHAN
That's right you go to Columbia in New York for psychology!
CHRISTINA
(the audience claps) Thank you, it's a lot of fun, lot of work though. But my teachers have always been a little angry with me because last year for my freshman year I had to miss class all the time to film so I would skype in and listen to lectures whenever I could, but I did manage to get a 3.0 my first semester, a 3.7 my second semester and hopefully the same or better this semester.
JONATHAN
(the audience cheers as does JONATHAN) Wow! Now why did you choose psychology?
CHRISTINA
When I was in high school I was always obsessed with insane asylums and mad houses and that's when I really started getting into comics, and I adored the villains!
JONATHAN
The villains?
CHRISTINA
Yes! The Joker was always my favorite, because he was just...insane, I loved it, I wish he was real because I would absolutely love to give him some therapy.
JONATHAN
Well hopefully you wouldn't end up like Harley Quinn, the therapist he made fall in love with him.
CHRISTINA
Ha ha, I wouldn't be surprised if I fell in love. I just think the mind of a killer is so interesting, which I know for someone like me is a little disturbing (the audience laughs
JONATHAN
Well then I've got a question for you, the man who stabbed and shot at you back in December of 2010, would you like to speak with him?
CHRISTINA
(she looks at him very plainly for a moment) He's dead.
JONATHAN
Oh, well then, maybe not. (the audience laughs)
CHRISTINA
What an interview this is shaping up to be, let's get some jokes going! (everyone laughs)
JONATHAN
I know I feel like I've opened up Pandora's Box!
CHRISTINA
That's what happens when you put me in front of a camera for 13 minutes, the craziest of things.
JONATHAN
Now you said you were a big fan of the Batman comics, would you say you know a decent amount about them?
CHRISTINA
See the things is, I'd like to think I know a decent amount, but then in about five seconds you're going to quiz me on that amount and I'm going to embarrass myself on this stage so, no I'm an idiot.
JONATHAN
(laughs) Oh come on, you were in the movie you should know a lot about it.
CHRISTINA
Oh lord, alright.
JONATHAN
I've got some quiz questions here, it's called Nightquiz (the audience laughs) and we're gonna see how much you can remember, if that's ok.
CHRISTINA
Let's do it!
JONATHAN
Alright (the lights dim so that it's just a blue light and then some voice say loudly NIGHTQUIZ and everyone laughs), question 1, who played the character of Barbara Gordon in the film Nightwing, just kidding, question 2 how many different Robins are there to Batman?
CHRISTINA
Oh, oh, okay there's Tim Drake, Damian, um, um, oh come on,
JONATHAN
Need a little-
CHRISTINA
Shut your mouth I've got this (the audience laughs) Stephanie, Jason Todd, why can I not remember the original Robin's name...the movie made up a name for Robin so I get all confused. AGH, oh my God.
JONATHAN
10 seconds.
CHRISTINA
(after a few seconds of looking down) DICK GRAYSON! (there's a buzz for an incorrect answer)
JONATHAN
You were so close! You forgot Carrie Kelly.
CHRISTINA
Oh come on!
JONATHAN
Next question, what is Batman's butler's full name?
CHRISTINA
Alfred Pennyworth.
JONATHAN
That was an easy one. According to the Batman video game Arkham City what is the name of the fictional city that Gotham City was built on top of?
CHRISTINA
Just beat that game about a month ago, Wonder City.
JONATHAN
Correct! List three of Batman's love interests.
CHRISTINA
Oh um, well Rachel Dawes.
JONATHAN
According to the comic books.
CHRISTINA
So Rachel Dawes doesn't count?
JONATHAN
No she does not.
CHRISTINA
Oh geez uh, Catwoman slash Selina Kyle?
JONATHAN
That's one.
CHRISTINA
Um...oh Talia Al Ghul!
JONATHAN
That's two!
CHRISTINA
Uhhh...I'm sure he eventually fell in love with me right. (there is a ding for a correct answer)
JONATHAN
Correct!
CHRISTINA
What!!
JONATHAN
Congratulations, you do know your stuff.
CHRISTINA
What did I win?
JONATHAN
Nothing! (the audience laughs)
CHRISTINA
Ha ha, yay!
JONATHAN
Well Christina you are just a delight and I really hope everyone goes and sees this phenomenal movie. Christina, I'm watching history in the making and I can't wait to cheer you on at your first BAFTA and Oscars. Christina Essenelle everyone! Nightwing comes out in theaters December 1st.
